This software allows for a community to build a database of local restaurants that can be viewed at any time. This database contains vital information about each restaurant. This includes their size, location, prices, hours, etc. It also contains phone numbers and menus. Now individuals can browse through menus in their home, and decide where to eat before they leave the house. If you have a particular preference, say you only want to see the non-smoking restaurants, you can search the database and list only the restaurants that match your prefrences. With this software, everybody wins. An Overview of the Door -- The screen layout is realatively simple. At the top, a window holds info on the current restaurant in memory. There is also a count of the total number of restaurants that reside in the database. The middle two windows are your commands . The bottom window displays vital information on the current restaurant in memory. Commands -- R] Redraw Screen - this door is very reliant on cursor positioning. That is why it requires ANSI/AVATAR/RIP emulation. Sometimes, line noise can mess with your screen, but the door won't know it. If this occurs simple press the 'R' key and the screen will be sent again. C] Choose Restaurant Preferences - this command invokes the search engine of the door. You must do this in order to build a list of restaurants that you are interested in. A window will pop up and ask you several basic questions. Just enter the corresponding number on the right of the window to answer the questions. If you do not care to choose a preference for the current question, simply enter '0' or press the ENTER key. After you have entered your preferences, another window will appear. This is the search results. It will tell you how many restaurants matched your preferences. You can choose a list that contains restaurants that match at least 1 preference, at least 2 preferences, etc. Then, the list will pop up. Use the '8' and '2' keys you scroll the list up and down. [L] List Restaurants - this pops up the list of restaurants that currently match your preferences. You can scroll the list using the '8' and '2' keys. ENTER puts the highlighted restaurant into memory making it the current restaurant. ESC exits the list, leaving the last restaurant as the current restaurant. If you wish to alter this list, you must change you preferences by pressing 'C' at the main screen. D] Download Current Packet - this option allows you to transfer restaurant information for the host computer to your personal computer for later viewing. The packet is named with a .trc extention. You will need to download the offline packet viewer by pressing 'O' at the main screen. It is a ZIP file and requires pkunzip.exe to install. Instructions are included in the archive. The packet that you download includes all the menus, the map, the other screens, and the relative data. You can download using X-Modem, Y-Modem, 2-Modem, or their variants. [M] Make Long Distance Request - Right now, this feature has not been included in this release. It will, in the future, allow you access to restaurant data from across the country. This way, if your planning a vacation in unknown territory, you can request information on the restaurants in that area. Then you will know where to eat, what to have, and how to get there. O] Download Offline Packet Viewer - This option transfer the file TRCVIEW .ZIP from the host computer to the local terminal. It is needed to view packets downloaded with the 'D' option. There are instructions in the zip file as well as a built in tutorial [Q] Quit - Exits you back to the BBS [1,2, 3, 4,5] These corrospond to associated restaurant data such as menus, maps, and advertisements. You can only view the information if there is currently a restaurant in memory. Once you choose a restaurant, you use the numbers 1-5 to display the ansi files. Contacting the Author This is the tricky part. As of this moment, I am going to be changing my address in the middle of August 1996.
